Hedberg Terminology: Booking, Backlog, Sales
This article defines and describes three common terms used in the Hedberg order process.

Order Booking |
“Booking” is an umbrella term. When an order is released in Hedberg, the sell and cost amounts are recorded as a booking. Bookings can be positive or negative numbers. Examples of negative bookings would be a canceled line item or a credit memo issued against the order. Once booked, an order is classified as a booking forever. Once an order is booked, it is sub-classified as either a backlog or sale. |

Order Backlog |
A booking is sub-categorized as a ‘Backlog’ until it is invoiced out of Hedberg. |

Order Sales |
A booking is sub-categorized as a ‘Sale’ when it is invoiced out of Hedberg. |

Commission Earned |
There is a column in commission payable statements titled ‘commission earned’. In Hedberg, commission is ‘earned’ when the invoice is generated. |

Commission Due |
Commission is ‘due’ when cash is received. There is typically a lag time between commission being ‘earned’ and being ‘due’. |

Commission Backlog |
Commission that is ‘earned’ but not yet ‘due’. This is reflected in the Commission Backlog Report. Orders listed on the Order Backlog will not be reflected on the Commission Backlog because they have not yet invoiced. |
Direct Sell as it relates to Bookings, Backlog, Sales
Direct Sales are not considered Bookings, Backlog or Sales in Hedberg. The Hedberg System only recognizes the commission from Direct Sales as revenue with no cost. For some dealers, this is an issue for their operational reporting.
Steelcase offers a report which captures the sell and cost for Direct Sell orders that nets to the commission amount. The report will be generated weekly (Sunday) and sent via email, along with the Steelcase e-Statement.
